Education

Faith formation is essential and built together through community. At Community House, we believe that faith formation never ends and that we are called to put our faith into action. Our faith formation programs are rooted in service, intelligence, imagination, and love. As you explore where you can connect, we encourage you to make your faith formation your own.

Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry Faith Statement

During the 2023-2024 school year, our students explored questions of faith that they had. While exploring these questions, we crafted a faith statement that aligns with where we are as a youth ministry.

Faith Statement:

We believe, help our unbelief….

In the Trinity present as God the Parent, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit

That God loves us and that doesn’t change. God is more expansive than the gender we place on Them.

That Jesus was born into this world to be with us as God incarnate. Jesus lived, was executed on the cross, was resurrected and that the resurrection was an act of unending love. We can face tomorrow because Jesus lives. Jesus is the Son of God, savior, and Messiah. Jesus was not white. Jesus is a lot/all encompassing.

That the Holy Spirit is moving today through our faith.

That it is ok to question and doubt because through doubt faith can be found and expanded. Faith is both a collective and individual effort. Faith is fragile, but building it together gives it a stronger foundation. Dialogue around faith, whether Christian or other faiths, should happen with authenticity and not power over those you are in dialogue with. To believe in the resurrection is tough, but to believe in the resurrection is also about not letting fear stop our belief. Faith is a big house

That the church is community, the House of the Lord, loving, the beginnings of justice movements, and gives people a reason to fight for good. We are the church now, not just the future of the church.

Light will always overcome the darkness. Death is not defeat. Communion and community are intertwined. Heaven isn’t a place to work towards, but it is the here and now that we enact through being the hands and feet of God. Prayer isn’t a vending machine

It is holy to care for and love people because they are intrinsically holy. We are called to love God, do justice, and walk humbly with God. That Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQIA+ community is beloved.

Adult Faith Formation

Faith formation is equally as important for adults as it is for our youth. We offer many opportunities to gather together and delve into our faith. From study groups to retreats; there is a chance to grow in your faith.

We are a Christ centered, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and social justice focused youth ministry collective on the Northside with Community House, Riverview United Presbyterian, and Mosaic Community Churches. We cultivate space for our students to form lifelong friendships as they have fun through games and retreats. We encourage them to ask the tough questions that may not always have answers and could lead to more questions. Our students serve in the community and region through providing shelter meals and participating on mission trips. Coming to the table to share in food and community is a priority. Our adult leaders are called to love and mentor our students and to grow in their own faith. Simply put, youth group is a formative experience for our students and leaders.
